Ever notice how those commercial cleaners often give-off the scent of lemon whenever you use them? This is because lemon has natural antiseptic and antibacterial properties that really come in handy for cleaning your home. Isn’t it best if you used the original thing instead of the synthetic one? Here are a couple of things that you can clean using lemons and other ingredients commonly found in your kitchen.

Stains on your counter top can be removed by applying a small amount of lemon juice for 3-5 minutes. Add baking soda and scrub the stain. Rinse off with tap water and towel dry.

Mix lemon juice and salt then apply on your kitchen and bathroom sink. Let stand for 2-3 minutes then scrub, rinse off with water, and towel dry.

Your chopping board (wood or plastic) could also use a bit of disinfecting. Simply apply lemon juice and allow to stand overnight for best results.

Put away those copper and brass cleaners. You just need lemon juice, salt and a scrubbing pad to clean all your copper and brass items.

Cloth stains can also be removed but it takes a bit of elbow-work. Apply a small amount of water to the stain followed by lemon juice then leave it out in the sun for an hour or so. If the stain has been there for quite some time, make a paste out of lemon juice and cream of tartar then apply the paste directly on the stain and leave out in the sun for 2-3 hours for best results. Wash the cloth as usual.

Your wood furniture could also benefit from a mixture of 2 parts olive oil and 1 part lemon juice. Simply combine these in a spray bottle and spray the mixture on the furniture you want to polish. Proceed as you would normally do when using commercially-prepared furniture polish.

The lemon rind contains essential oils that would make any room smell great. After you’ve removed the juices, place cut-up rinds in a saucepan full of water and allow it to boil for 20-30 minutes. Just be sure to leave the saucepan uncovered.

Add a few drops of lemon juice to your vinegar and water cleaning mixture to mask the smell of vinegar.
